Reviews The following is an excerpt from a review by Luis De la Cruz, Project Director of the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
“. . . the works seems to evade the criteria generally applicable to mainstream acceptance and challenges the viewer's intellect and instinct to engage.
The paintings, mixed media and monotypes are immediate and beautiful. Goulden's love of surface texture, light and illusionist ambiguities are responsible for our falling under the spell of these magical works. The work graduates abstraction to a kind of symbolic shorthand. That is, an apparent abstract work will turn out to be composed of figurations, which have sensual connotation.
We can find a stylistic decisiveness, a tendency in order to reinforce the theatrical statement. Thus, the most figurative paintings are interesting because they surrender to figuration, but also for the way they express emotionalism.”
